Streaks & streak freezes
What keeps a streak alive, how freezes are earned and spent, and how time off protects it.
Your streak is the run of days you kept showing up. Streak freezes are the quiet safety net underneath it, so one bad day does not undo a good month.

What keeps a streak alive
A day counts toward your streak when it holds at least 15 minutes of focus. One short session is not enough on its own; fifteen minutes across the day is.
A day you have declared as time off also counts, without spending anything. Rest is part of the rhythm, not a gap in it.
Days from before 6 July 2026 are grandfathered. They count on the old rule, which was any completed session, so raising the bar to fifteen minutes never broke a streak that already existed.
Your current streak and your best streak both sit in the all-time stats on the Growth page.
Streak freezes
You can hold two freezes at a time, and everyone starts with both. Each one bridges a single missed day automatically, so your streak survives without you doing anything or even knowing it happened.
Filling them
Freezes refill with focus time. The first costs 2 hours of banked focus, and the second costs another 3 hours after that. The card shows how many you are holding out of two, a bar for the one in progress, and a line reading how much more focus fills the next one. That line disappears once both are banked.
Spending them
A freeze is spent on its own, the first time Yappie sees a new day, and only when it can cover the whole gap.
If you miss more days than you have freezes, none of them is spent. The streak breaks and your freezes stay in the bank for next time. Yappie would rather keep them than waste them on a run that is already over.
Getting one back
Marking a day as time off after a freeze already covered it hands the freeze back. Once the day stands on its own as declared rest, the freeze it spent was never needed.
The card carries a link to Time off for exactly this reason. A freeze is for the odd slip. If you know a break is coming, declare it and the freeze stays in your pocket.
Yappie no longer nags you when you run out of freezes. Using your streak as leverage to push another session was not the kind of app this is meant to be.
Working on a day you declared off
Tapping Actually, I want to work opens today back up. What that costs depends on which kind of rest day it was.
- Inside a booked leave, the protection stands. Leaving the intention unfulfilled is exactly the ordinary day a declared leave exists to cover.
- On a standing weekly day off, the day becomes an ordinary work day and needs the same fifteen minutes any work day needs. A freeze covers it if you fall short.
The same goes for a rest day you worked on without pressing anything at all. See What a rest day looks like.
Streaks with a friend
The personal streak is not the only one. When you focus alongside a friend, Yappie also keeps a shared streak for the two of you: a day counts once you have spent at least 5 minutes of overlapping focus together. It shows on the friend's row and in the relationship section of their profile.
Study groups keep streaks of their own too, counted from focus done together in the room. See Study groups.
