Yappie's energy
A daily battery that drains as you focus, refills as you rest, and shows on the badge at the top of the window.
Energy is Yappie's daily battery. It runs from 0 to 100, drains while you focus, and comes back while you rest. It is a picture of today's pace, not a score to defend, and nothing in Yappie is locked behind it.
Where you see it
A slim bar runs along the bottom edge of the "focused today / done" pill at the top of the window. Hover it and Yappie tells you the exact percentage.

The full meter, with a line explaining what moves it, lives on the Growth page.
The bar is green while energy is healthy, amber once it drops below 60%, and red below 35%.
What moves it
- Focus costs about 1.5 points a minute. A 25-minute session takes off a little under 40.
- Rest you log gives back 4 points a minute. That covers timer breaks, breaks you log yourself, physical activity and social time.
- Being away gives back 2 points a minute, deliberately half of rest you actually tell Yappie about. Time away might have been rest, or it might have been work somewhere else.
At the away rate, an empty battery refills over roughly 50 minutes, which is about a lunch.
Ticking a task off drains energy as well, but only when it carries a set time, because Yappie credits that time as though you had run the clock on it. A task with no time leaves the battery where it was.
Recovery while the app is closed
Away recovery is not a ticking timer. Yappie stores your battery along with the moment it was last true and works out the difference whenever anyone looks. That is why closing the app for an hour and coming back to a rested pet works at all, and why nothing runs in the background to make it happen.
Recovery stops while a focus session or a break is running on any of your devices. You are not resting while you are focusing, even if the focusing is happening on your phone.
Live movement
During a session the bar moves as you go rather than jumping at the end. It re-reads itself every fifteen seconds, so the change reads as a drift rather than a tick. Pausing a session freezes it where it is.
A tired Yappie
Below 35% the pet wears a sleepy face with a Zzz drifting above its head, and its idle line changes from "Ready. What are we working on?" to "Running low, a little rest would help".
A tired Yappie also stops smiling and blushing back when you play with it. It still squishes and stretches, but it does not light up any more. That is the cue, not a bug.
Energy starts full every morning. A tired pet in the evening is not a setback, it means you spent the day on something.
What energy is not
It does not gate any feature, it does not affect XP, and it never costs you a streak. The one place it shows up elsewhere is My sky: filling the battery all the way back to 100 places a star for the day.
You can also see the last two weeks of it as a chart, on the Energy over time card in Charts.
