Cookie Policy

What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. Some are essential for the site to function and to keep your account secure; others (which we don’t use) are for analytics or advertising. This policy covers cookies and similar technologies (such as browser local storage) used on myyappie.app.
The cookies we use
Every one of these is here to deliver something you asked for: staying signed in, keeping the site secure, remembering a preference you set, or finishing something you started before you had an account. Under EU and Dutch law these do not require a consent banner. None of them is used for advertising, and none follows you onto another website.
Two of them are worth spelling out. yappie_attribution records the page or campaign you first arrived from, so we can tell which of our own writing brings people here; it holds no advertising identifier, is read once when you sign up, and is then cleared. yappie:stranger-guest is browser storage, not a cookie. It never reaches our servers on its own, and it exists so that focusing with someone without an account still works properly across a refresh.
Distinguishes humans from bots to protect the site from abuse.

Records where you first arrived from (a campaign link or the site that linked to us), so we can tell which of our own pages and posts bring people to Yappie. Read once at sign-up and then cleared. It contains no advertising identifier and is never shared, sold, or used to follow you across other websites. Encrypted.

When you focus with someone without an account, this remembers the pet you picked, the name you typed and a random key for this browser, so a refresh keeps you the same pet to the person you are sitting with, and so you can choose not to be matched with somebody again. The key is random and is not linked to you. Stored in your browser (local storage).

Spam & abuse protection (Cloudflare Turnstile)
To protect our forms (such as sign-up, contact, and appeals) and app downloads from spam and automated abuse, we use Cloudflare Turnstile, a privacy-first check that, unlike some alternatives, does not track you across other websites. To respect your privacy, Turnstile is loaded only when you actually submit a protected form or start a download and never while you browse the rest of the site. When it runs it may set a strictly-necessary cookie to complete the check; it is provided by Cloudflare, and its use is governed by Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy.
Payments (Paddle)
When you make a purchase, checkout is handled by our Merchant of Record, Paddle. Paddle may set its own strictly-necessary cookies on its checkout to process your payment securely. See Paddle’s cookie policy.
Analytics & advertising
We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. If we measure how the site is used, we rely on aggregate server logs and privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics that set no cookies and build no profile of you across sites or sessions. For example, when you download the app we record the platform and your approximate country server-side, with no cookie involved (full detail in our Privacy Policy). We will update this policy and add a consent banner before introducing any cookie that would require your consent.
Managing cookies
Because we only set strictly-necessary cookies, there is nothing to opt out of. You can still clear or block cookies through your browser settings, though blocking the essential cookies above may stop you from signing in or using parts of the app. Browser help pages: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge.
Changes & contact
We may update this policy if our use of cookies changes; the “last updated” date above reflects the latest version. Questions? Email privacy@myyappie.app or write to Atiora Solutions, 274C Roer, 2908 MC Capelle aan den IJssel, Netherlands. For more on how we handle personal data, see our Privacy Policy.
