How do I focus with a friend online?

Press Start a room and you land in a room with a link of its own. Send that link to your friend however you normally talk, and you both join in a browser with nothing to install. A room holds two people, so anyone who opens the link after that is told the room is full and offered one of their own.

Is it free, and do we both need an account?

Accepted Answer

Free for both of you, and neither side needs an account. Focusing together is free on every Yappie plan, so there is nothing here to unlock later. Signing in is optional: it lets you join as your own pet, or as a look chosen just for this session, and the minutes count towards your account.

Question 3

Do we each get our own timer?

Accepted Answer

One timer belongs to the room and both screens show the same countdown. Either person can set the length, start it, pause it or stop it, and the other screen follows within a few seconds. A new room opens at 25 minutes, and any length from 1 to 240 minutes works.

What can the other person see about me?

Accepted Answer

Your pet and, if you type one, a name. There is no chat, no video and no microphone, so the only thing crossing the room is that somebody else is there focusing too. A name is optional, holds up to 24 characters, and passes the same content check as names elsewhere in Yappie, so one that breaks the guidelines is refused rather than shown to your friend.

What happens if my friend leaves or closes the tab?

The pet on the other side drops out of the room within seconds, and the timer carries on, so a session can be finished alone. The seat is free again, so the same link brings your friend back, or you can pass it to somebody else. Nobody new is matched in automatically, which is where this differs from Focus with a stranger.

Question 6

Is anything from the room saved?

Accepted Answer

Nothing about the room reaches a database or an account. A room holds only the chosen pet looks, the optional names and the shared timer, and it forgets all of that about a minute after the last person leaves, so the same link later opens an empty room that starts over. Signed in, your focus time counts towards your account like any other focus session. Signed out, the end of a session offers to keep those minutes for a new free account.
